I have a tight pelvic floor. Does that mean I should not be STRENGTHENING?
My doctor said my pelvic floor is tight. That means I shouldn’t strengthen right?
In our experience we have found that muscles are tight for a reason. A lot of the time a muscle is holding tension because it is being asked to do more than it can handle. If you load/demand to a muscle is more than it can handle it will tighten to help guard and protect.
Stretching and breath work are incredibly helpful to help release a tight pelvic floor but if you skip the strength portion the tightness will come back. In order to find long term success you need to decrease the demand to the tight tissue by not only strengthening the pelvic floor directly but by strengthening all other areas that can help decrease the demand to the pelvic floor.
In short, if your pelvic floor is tight. In most cases, you should not avoid strength. Of course there are always exceptions. To find out what you need, give us a call! We will conduct a full Body assessment to determine what your body needs for success.
