Prolapse occurs mostly due to a loss of muscular and fascial support in your vagina or rectum in combination with poor pressure management strategies. Pelvic floor physical therapy is specialized in helping women to overcome this diagnosis and feel empowered in their bodies again. Common symptoms of prolapse include pelvic heaviness, pressure, a bulge in your vagina or rectum, low back pain, or difficulty voiding. A typical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse could include

  • Manual therapy can include myofascial release and visceral releases to help reduce pain and tension and improve tissue length

  • You will be prescribed specific exercises to help improve mobility of your pelvis, hips, back, diaphragm. Basically, if you feel tight and restriction we will provide you with exercises specific to your needs to help restore appropriate movement.

  • Our goal is to not only improve your strength deficits but to empower you to feel confident with all of your daily tasks or any move incorporated in your regular workouts.

  • Our therapists will educate you on their findings and help you fully understand not only what is going on with your body but also what you can do to help reduce your symptoms

  • If we have inappropriate pressure management strategies, meaning, we bear down, breath hold and maintain improper alignment especially when lifting then we could be overloading our pelvic floor making us more prone to issues such as prolapse. We will help teach you effective pressure management strategies to help prevent inappropriately bearing down on your pelvis
