Pelvic Floor
Physical Therapy
in Alpharetta, ga
Pelvic floor dysfunction in adolescent athletes is common, yet rarely talked about—but it should be. Leaking with tumbling, pain with certain movements, or feeling like your core just isn’t working right can impact confidence, performance, and even lead athletes to quit their sport altogether.
At Empower, we specialize in helping young athletes strengthen, coordinate, and optimize their pelvic floor and core so they can move better, feel better, and stay in the game. Whether symptoms show up during sport or in everyday life, treatment can make a lasting difference.

What pelvic floor physical therapy for young athletes looks like
-
We begin with a thorough evaluation to identify the root cause of your symptoms—not just the surface-level issues. By assessing your movement patterns, range of motion, strength, coordination, and breathing mechanics, we can pinpoint what’s contributing to your discomfort or dysfunction.
From there, we create a personalized plan of care designed specifically for you—so you can move, perform, and feel your best with long-term results.
-
Manual therapy includes myofascial release, joint mobilizations, and visceral mobilizations to help reduce tightness and restrictions contributing to your symptoms. These techniques improve mobility, decrease discomfort, and enhance overall movement efficiency.
For adults, pelvic floor treatment often includes an internal exam. However, with our adolescent athletes, we do not perform internal exams unless it has been thoroughly discussed with the patient, her parents, and her OB/GYN. Our approach prioritizes comfort, consent, and individualized care.
-
Proper pressure management is key to pelvic floor function. If you tend to bear down or hold your breath during movement, it can increase downward pressure on your pelvic floor, contributing to issues like leaking urine or fecal matter.
We’ll teach you effective pressure management strategies to help you engage your core and breathe optimally—preventing unnecessary strain on your pelvis so you can move with confidence and control.
-
Our strengthening exercises focus on building core stability, improving pelvic floor coordination and reaction time, and enhancing overall muscle strength. These exercises help you control pressure effectively, reducing or eliminating pelvic floor symptoms and ensuring you’re prepared for any challenge. Each exercise is tailored to your unique needs, helping you achieve optimal function and peak performance.
-
Our mobility exercises are designed to ensure your core canister (diaphragm, pelvic floor, abdominals, and back) moves efficiently and works together as a cohesive unit.
We assess key areas like your rib cage, spine, pelvis, shoulders, and feet to support healthy movement patterns and reduce tightness that could impact your performance. Incorporating both stretching and dynamic movements, we keep your body agile and responsive for optimal movement in sports and everyday activities.
-
At Empower, we believe that education is one of the most important parts of treatment. Every athlete’s body is different, and so are the reasons behind their symptoms. That’s why we take the time to help you understand why you’re experiencing issues like leaking, pain, or difficulty engaging your core.
By breaking down how the pelvic floor, core, and movement patterns work together, we give you the tools to move with confidence. You’ll not only understand what we’re doing in treatment but also why it matters—so you can apply it in practice, training, and competition.
Whether you’re mastering a new skill, switching sports, or simply wanting to move better, you’ll leave with the knowledge to keep your body working at its best—long after therapy ends.
-
If your symptoms occur during your sport, we focus on improving them within the exact movements and positions that trigger them—whether it’s sprinting, jumping, tumbling, or cutting. We assess how you move within your sport, identifying any movement patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms.
We also ensure that your training aligns with the specific demands of your sport. A soccer player’s needs will be different from a gymnast’s, and both may require a completely different approach than a non-athlete. By tailoring your training to the unique physical demands of your activity, we help you move efficiently, powerfully, and without limitations—so you can perform at your best with confidence.
