Postpartum
physical therapy
“Postpartum is a quest back to yourself. Alone in your body again. You will never be the same. You are stronger than you were.”
- Amethyst Joy
Delivering a baby, regardless of the method results in inflammation, swelling, a significant change to tissue length, contractility and weakness. You are now in a new body and we have to help teach it how to move, contract and help support your new roles and responsibilities. At Empower, we are a specialized pelvic floor physical therapy practice with a deep passion for helping women reconnect to their bodies, establish a strong foundation and then helping you return to exercise with confidence.

what issues do help moms with?
If any of these issues sound like something you are experiencing, know you are not alone.
These are very common complaints after pregnancy and childbirth — but there is a solution.
When Should I start?
If you are a new mom we like to see you around 2 weeks for postpartum physical therapy. We are able to go over education on how you move to decrease stress and strain to your core and pelvic floor. We are also able to begin breath work at this time which allows you to begin to reconnected to your core and pelvic floor allowing you to move easier and feel better!
Once postpartum always postpartum, so if you had your baby 5 years ago you can still be complaining of some of the above concerns. Don’t worry you can still make them better! You can begin your journey to being a stronger, healthier you whenever you want!
What does treatment involve
After we go over a through history and full body evaluation we will make a plan specifically for you; focused on your goals and what we found on your evaluation. There can be some manual therapy involved; including soft tissue mobilizations, joint mobilizations, and dry needling but you will be moving during our sessions! Specific strengthening and mobility exercises as well as breathing exercises are generally part of most treatments. All of these help to improve your alignment and return balance to your body allowing everything to work optimally!
